Crump's 22 Trumps TAMIU in 60-53 Win at Tip-Off Classic

Box Score

ANAHEIM -- Senior Givon Crump played with an urgency befitting one's last year of intercollegiate competition as he poured in a game-high 22 points to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 60-53 win over Texas A&M International on day two of the West Coast Tip-Off Classic.

More to follow as the Toros move to 1-1 overall.

Despite 18 turnovers follow yesterday's 14 giveaways, CSUDH wasn't facing the No. 2 team in the nation today as the Dustdevils gave back 16 balls themselves in falling to 0-2.

Texas A&M Internationl scored the game's first seven points before buckets by Crump and Justin Standley cut CSUDH's deficit to three.

The Toros finally took the lead on a pair of Steffon Neal freebies before TAMIU scored the final five points of the half to take a 20-16 lead entering the break.

After intermission, the Toros took control, taking the lead and stretching it to 26-22 on a pair of Darnell Martin free throws with 15:44 left in regulation.

A Dustdevil run of their own knotted the game at 27-all two minutes later, spurring a 9-2 spurt that gave them a 38-29 lead with under 10 minutes left.

Behind a triple by Neal, two foul shots by Standley, and buckets by Chris Carvin and Crump, the Toros caught TAMIU at 40-40, with a bucket by Martin in the paint one possession later giving the Toros the lead for good.

CSUDH kept the Dustdevils at a 5-point deficit the rest of the game, with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch sealing the 60-53 win as the Toros drained seven of their final eight foul shots of the night.

Crump was key from the line with just one miss in 11 tries as CSUDH struggled from beyond the arc tonight after missing 13 of 14 tries.

Crump also pulled down a team-best 8 boards to help counter TAMIU's Vadel Faniel's game-high 12 rebounds.

Martin added 11 points and Standley 10 in the win.

CSUDH will conclude the Tip-Off Classic tomorrow night in the final game of the tournament, facing Alaska Anchorage for an 8:30 pm first tip.
