Crump's 25 Leads Toros Past Western Oregon in Cougar Classic

Box Score

AZUSA -- Senior Givon Crump converted 11 of 13 free throw attempts en route to a game-high 25 points as Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 71-59 win over Western Oregon on the final day of the APU-hosted Cougar Classic.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 3-2 on the year.

One day after suffering a blowout loss against the host Cougars, the Toros took awhile to find their rhythm, until a 9-0 run turned an 11-9 deficit into an 18-11 lead, the last point coming on a Darnell Martin lay-up before CSUDH entered the locker room up 28-25.

CSUDH pushed its lead to 11 after the break on a Chris Carvin triple with 17:52 left in regulation, and held off a spirited WOU run that cut its lead to just 39-35 with 11:42 left before going on an 18-4 run to all but put the game away en route to the 71-59 final.

Darnell Martin added 14 points and 11 boards as the only player with at least 10 rebounds, with Everett Turner chipping in 14 points in the win.

The Toros shot 48.1% from the field, but more importantly, held WOUL to just 36.8%.

CSUDH owned the boards en route to a 40-27 advantage, including four offensive rebounds by Martin.

The Toros will enjoy a few weeks off before kicking off CCAA action at cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on November 30, with first tip set for 7:30 pm in the Eagles Nest.
