Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Jacks

Box Score

CARSON -- Junior Tarryn Luafalemana led all hitters with 16 kills on the night, but visiting Humboldt State managed a .132 hitting percentage compared to .071 for the hosts, and the result was a 3-1 Lumberjack win to sweep the regular season series.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 8-12, 1-11 CCAA.

The hosts got off to a quick start tonight after an Elizabeth Krieger kill gave CSUDH an early 7-3 lead in the opener.  The visitors, however, answered with a 14-8 run to quell the Cardinal and Gold momentum en route to a 25-19 first set win.

The second set was nearly a carbon copy of the opener as the Toros raced to a 9-3 lead.  But just like the first set, HSU roared back to tie the set at 14-14, and take the lead for good at 22-21 before a Toro service error gave the Jacks a 25-22 win.

After the break, CSUDH found itself down 14-10 midway through the set, but roared back behind Whitney Lee before the strong serve of Kathleen Molina gave the Toros a set point, which they capitalized on after Krieger sent one to the floor in the 25-23 win.

The fourth set was either team's to take as the squads traded leads, with HSU holding an early 5-1 edge only to have CSUDH catch and pass the Jacks in the form of an 18-14 advantage.

Much like the give-and-take of the set, however, it was HSU that got the last word in as it out-scored the Toros 11-5 the rest of the frame in the eventual 25-23 win.

Krieger added 14 kills in the loss, with Lee chipping in 9 putaways.

CSUDH will look to regroup tomorrow night against Cal Poly Pomona, with first serve set for 7 pm in the Torodome.
