No. 14 Coyotes Too Strong for Toros

Box Score

CARSON -- One night after pushing 10th-ranked UC San Diego to a fourth set, Cal State Dominguez Hills ran into a buzz saw in 14th-ranked and CCAA-leading Cal State San Bernardino as the Coyotes held the Toros to a .019 hitting percentage in taking a 3-0 sweep.

Junior Tarryn Luafalemana led the Toros with 7 kills in the loss that dropped CSUDH to 8-11, 1-10 CCAA.

CSUSB, meanwhile, remains perfect in the CCAA at 11-0, improving to 15-4 overall.

The Yotes raced out to a 12-4 lead in the first set and never looked back, pushing their lead to 21-8 en route to the 25-12 win.

Set two nearly was a carbon copy of the opener as CSUSB broke out to an 11-3 advantage and pushed it to 20-8 before the final 25-14 count.

The third and final set saw some life from the hosts as strong serving by Chelsea Almario gave CSUDH a 7-2 advantage, with the Toros holding a slim 14-12 edge on a Whitney Lee kill.

CSUSB, however, caught the Toros at 14, 15, 16, and 17, and took the lead on a CSUDH attack error.

The Toros regained the lead at 21-19 behind Hillary Domecus' tough serving, but CSUSB used a pair of Kaitly Christner kills, a Toro attack error and a final putaway by Tori May to seal the 25-22 win and the 3-0 sweep.

Elizabeth Krieger added 6 kills and 8 digs, with Kathleen Molina chipping in 10 digs in the loss.

Christner was the lone player in double-figure kills with 12 as the Yotes hit .440 and .343 in coasting through the first two sets.

CSUDH continues its homestand next weekend, hosting Humboldt State on Friday, October 25, with first serve set for 7 pm in the Torodome.
