Toros Run Wild on Wildcats in 67-41 Blowout

Box Score

CARSON -- Junior DeShaun Freeman scored a game- and career-high 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the floor as Cal State Dominguez Hills led wire-to-wire in coasting to a 67-41 win over Chico State tonight.

With their third-straight win, the Toros move to 10-7, 6-4 CCAA, while the Wildcats drop to 8-6, 5-5 CCAA.

The Toros got out of the block quickly, taking a 6-0 lead on a DeShaun Freeman bucket before pushing it to 22-5 on a pair of Lamine Diame free throws.

The Wildcats looked to make a run after cutting their deficit to 24-10, but Diame quickly quelled the would-be rally with the play of the first half as he picked off an entry pass from Damario Sims, streaked down the floor and distributed a behind the back pass to a trailing Myron Green, who flushed home a one-handed dunk to bring to lead to 26-10, as well as the Torodome crowd on its feet with 5:29 left in the half before the hosts settled for a 35-14 cushion at the break.

The hosts continued to control play after the break as a Freeman jumper gave CSUDH a 25-point lead at 39-14 just 1:40 into the second half.

CSUC cut its deficit to just 15 after a Spencer Moyer lay-up, only to have the Toros answer and push the lead back up to 25 on three more occasions, the last coming on a Deon Geary triple.

Keeping their foot on the pedal, a Ramon Williams flush and tip-in by Steffon Neal gave CSUDH its biggest lead of the night at 29, before settling for the 26-point win.

Green added 13 points and 6 boards in the win as the Toros drained 47.3% of their shots from the field.  Conversely, CSUDH's defense held the Wildcats to just 17.3% shooting as CSUC made just 9 field goals all game.

CSUDH continues its homestand next weekend, beginning with CCAA-leader Cal Poly Pomona on Friday.  The game will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network by clicking here.
