CHICO -- Tenth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills came back from Sam Baker's perfect game 8-0 (6) win in the opener to forge a 4-3 (11) win over No. 15 Chico State in the nightcap to salvage a split in a regular season showdown between two top 20 teams.  Brittany Brenner delivered the late-inning heroics with a game-winning RBI double off of Baker, who entered in relief.

With the split, the Toros remain atop the CCAA with a 37-9 overall and 23-5 league mark, while the Wildcats move to 26-12, 17-1 CCAA.

After not reaching base in the opener against Baker, the Toros struck first in the nightcap, getting their first hit in the first before taking a 1-0 lead in the second on the first of two Daisy Beltran RBI doubles.

That lead proved short-lived as the Wildcats scored three in the third to take the lead, the big blow coming on a Sam Quadt 2RBI single.

That's where the game remained until the top of the seventh when the Toros got even as Beltran knocked home Catherine Brown to cut the lead to 3-2, after Brown pinch ran for Stephanie Hua, who doubled to right to begin the frame.

After Beltran advanced to third on a wild pitch, Veronica Vazquez again came through in the clutch with a scorcher up the middle to tie the game at 3-3.

The scoreboard remained knotted until the 11th when a one-out Melissa Pacheco walk set up Brenner's heroics.

After Elizabeth Jimenez came into run for Pacheco at second base, Brenner greeted Baker with a booming double to left center to score Jimenez with the go-ahead run.

Jimenez's sister and starting pitcher Stephanie Jimenez then completed her 11-inning day by surviving a two-on, one-out would-be Wildcat rally, inducing Britt Wright to line into a double play to end the game.

Jimenez scattered nine hits in the win, allowing no earned runs as the Toros committed an un-Toro-like three errors.

Vazquez, Hall and Pacheco joined Beltran with two hits apiece, while Wright and Diana Payan each belted three hits to lead Chico State.

The two teams complete their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11 am on the University Softball Field.
