No. 9 Toros Settle For Split at CS San Bernardino

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior Stephanie Jimenez fanned 13 batters in game one en route to a dominating 3-0 win over host CS San Bernardino, but the Coyotes returned the favor in the nightcap in a 3-2 decision to salvage a split.

With the win, CSUDH's magic number to clinch the top seed in the CCAA Championship Tournament becomes two, with two games left in the regular season after moving to 39-11, 25-7 CCAA.

It was all Jimenez in the opener as the junior co-ace fanned seven Coyote batters in the first three frames, including the side in both the second and third.

A three-hit second including a Daisy Beltran RBI single and a two-hit, one error third accounted for the game's first two runs, while a Melissa Pacheco RBI single in the fifth tallied the third and final run of the game.

Jimenez, Christina Chavez and Brittany Brenner each laced two hits in the win as part of 11 total for the Toros.

The nightcap looked to be a mirror image of the opener after CSUDH took a 2-0 lead after four after a Beltran RBI double and wild pitch with a runner on third, but the Yotes shook off their dormant offense for three in the sixth, all coming on a 3-run blast from Britney Butler.

Jimenez took the loss despite allowing just four hits and roping two of her own, while the Toros failed to take advantage of three CSUSB errors in the loss.

The two teams wrap up the regular season tomorrow, with first pitch set for 11 am.
