CARSON -- The reigning CCAA Pitcher of the Week, junior ace Lauren Harper nearly duplicated her record-setting performance from last year of 16 strikeouts in a single game, settling for 14 as the Toros took a 2-0 win in the opener over New Jersey-based Felician College before their offense erupted in a 10-0, 5-inning nightcap rout.

The win moves the Toros to 24-3 on the year as a showdown with defending NCAA National Champion UC San Diego looms this weekend in La Jolla, while the Falcons remain winless at 0-8.

After Harper's first three pitches were out of the strike zone, she rattled off 11 strikes in her next 12 pitches en route to fanning the first five batters faced before Grace Keller tallied what would prove to be FC's lone hit of the day.

Unfazed, Harper regrouped to fan the next two batters she faced to give her seven strikeouts in a row.

After flexing their muscles in the series against San Francisco State last weekend, CSUDH was held hitless
by Kristen Tenwolde before Jessica Hall notched the Toros' first hit of the game in the fourth.

The Toros finally got on the board in the fifth after pinch-runner Ciara Campos scored on a Khryssi Steele baseknock to right field after Brittany Brenner began the frame with a double.

A Felician error made it the 2-0 final an inning later after a miscue by the left fielder on a single allowed Hall to score all the way from first after she led off the frame with a walk.

Harper finished with 14 strikeouts against just one walk, while facing just two batters over the minimum 23 required for a 7 inning contest and throwing 84 strikes and 114 pitches total.

The Toros continued picked up their offense in the nightcap, spotting starting pitcher Stephanie Jimenez seven runs in the bottom of the first off FC starter Micki Keltos, who made her first start of the season.

After Steele lined out to center to begin the inning, a single and walk set the stage for Christina Chavez brought home the first two runs.  Two walks, two illegal pitches, a Falcon pitching change, a double and an error resulted in the next four crossing the plate, before a Catherine Brown RBI single brought home the seventh and final run of the inning.

CSUDH continued to produce in its next two at-bats with three total runs, with Brown again delivering, this time a 2RBI single off the second baseman's glove.

That was plenty for Jimenez, who allowed just two hits and fanned seven en route to her 12th win of the year.

Brown went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI in the nightcap, while Vazquez matched the hit total with a 2-for-4, 2 run effort.

Cal State Dominguez Hills' 24-3 record surpasses the previous program's best start over the first 27 games, besting a 23-4 start by the 2006 squad, one that won a program best 42 games and came within two wins of advancing to the College World Series.

The road gets significantly more difficult over this weekend as the Toros face No. 20 and defending NCAA Champion UC San Diego in La Jolla on Friday, with first pitch set for 1:00 pm on Triton Field.
