TURLOCK -- Junior Lauren Harper bounced back from yesterday's un-Harper like performance for a 5-2 win over Cal Baptist in day two of pool play in the Tournament of Champions behind Veronica Vazquez's 4RBI, before Western Oregon survived a 9-inning, 3-2 decision in the late game.

With the split, the Toros move to 34-8 overall.

In arguably one of the most anticipated match-ups of the tournament against a pair of 30-win teams, the Toros were able to produce three early runs in the second inning to take an early lead over the Lancers.

Leftfielder Alyssa Cruz led off the rally with a single through the right side followed by Kaci McGinnis, who singled to left field.  With two outs, Khryssi Steele loaded the bases after also tallying a single to set the table for sophomore Vazquez who cleared them with a double to left-center to give the Toros a 3-0 lead.

Harper pitched 5.0 scoreless innings before offering up two runs in the bottom of the sixth, only to have CSUDH anser right back with two runs to extend the lead to its final 5-2 score, with Vazquez tallying the fourth and final RBI in the frame.

Stephanie Jimenez then came in to close out the game for Harper, recording her fourth save of the season.

Harper's record improves to 17-5 after allowing just one earned run on four hits, fanning seven Lancer batters in the proces.

Vazquez led the Toros offense with a 2-for-4 effort, with five Toros in Steele, Jimenez, Cruz, McGinnis, and Jessica Hall each tallying a hit on the afternoon.

In the nightcap, the Wolves struck first with a run in the top of the first, before the Toros finally tied the score in the sixth inning after Daisy Beltran brought home pinch-runner Catherine Brown, the first run CSUDH cashed in after stranding seven in the first five frames.

That's where the score remained until the top of the ninth when an Amanda Evola double brought home Kendra George, who was placed on second to begin the inning in tournament extra inning format, before an Ashley Worthey single brought home Evola for a 3-1 lead.

The Toros mounted their own comeback in the bottom half of the inning with a runner on third with one out, but could only bring home a single run after a WOU error made it unearned in the loss.

CSUDH finished with 10 left on base while Steele led the offense with 3 hits as part of 8 Toro hits in the game.

With games still being completed on day two, the Toros will find out later tonight which team they will face in tomorrow's bracket play, as well as the time.
