CARSON -- And the streak lives!  Sophomore Veronica Vazquez made sure of that after belting an 8th-inning 2-run walk-off home run of Sonoma State sensation Samantha Lipperd to give the 15th-ranked Toros a 2-0 win on "Senior Day" honoring Khryssi Steele and Jackie Reyes before CSUDH took a 9-1 win in a 6-inning run rule nightcap for the sweep.

With the wins, the Toros improve to 31-6, 22-4, CCAA and keep their home winning streak in tact at 24.  The Seawolves, meanwhile, fall to 18-13, 10-12 CCAA.

Saddled with both losses yesterday, SSU starter Samantha Lipperd came out with a vengeance in the opener, tallying 10 strikeouts in the first four innings of work en route to 13 on the day.

CSUDH starter Lauren Harper was up to Lipperd's thrown gauntlet, however, scattering 4 hits on the day with 6 strikeouts of her own.

The game remained scoreless after regulation and through the top half of the eighth, until the Toros mounted their final rally of the game.

In that at-bat, senior Khryssi Steele drilled a 1-1 Lipperd offering back up the middle, deflecting off Lipperd's glove for an infield hit, just the second of the game for the Toros.

Vazquez then stepped up and launched a 1-0 offering from Lipperd over the left center field fence for her second home run of the year in the dramatic and tension-filled game.

The nightcap looked to be less dramatic after the Toros scored 8 runs in the first three innings off SSU starter Ciara Becerril, the big blows coming on a Christina Chavez 2-run home run in the second, and a Vazquez 2RBI double and crucial error at home plate in a third inning that saw the Toros plate five.

That was plenty for game two starter Jimenez, who scattered just three hits in her six innings of work, fanning three against just a single walk.

Freshman Stephanie Hua went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the nightcap, with Chavez driving home three in a 2-for-4 effort.

Steele, Vazquez and Jessica Hall added two hits apiece, with Hall tallying a pair of RBI.

The contests marked the final regular season league games for seniors Steele and Jackie Reyes, who were honored in a between games ceremony.

The Toros' search for a perfect home season will end one way or another on Tuesday, March 27, as CS San Bernardino visits Toro Diamond for a pair of non-conference games, with first pitch set for 1 pm.  Both games can be heard live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
