LA JOLLA -- Host and 22nd-ranked UC San Diego and senior pitcher Camille Gaito again showed why they're the defending NCAA Champions after sweeping perhaps the hottest team in the nation in 5th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills, taking a 5-2 win in the opener before a come-from-behind 7-5 victory in the nightcap.  Sophomore Veronica Vazquez drove home three runs in the twinbill.

With the losses, CSUDH falls to 25-6, 16-4 CCAA, while the Tritons improve to 20-8, 14-6 CCAA.

The opener was all UCSD as the Tritons held the Toros to just one hit through six en route to a 5-1 lead.

The Toros looked to mount a rally in the seventh once reliever Camille Escalara entered for Gaito and loaded the bases with none out, only to have Gaito re-enter and get the first two batters she faced on a strikeout and pop up to second base.

Veronica Vazquez then stepped to the plate and promptly singled home a run, setting the stage for yesterday's game two hero in Jessica Hall.  Gaito, however, got the best of Hall as she fanned the junior third baseman, securing the win for UCSD.

Harper took her second loss of the series after tossing just four innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 unearned runs.

In the nightcap, the Toros spotted starter Stephanie Jimenez four runs in the first three innings, courtesy of a Vazquez 2-run blast in the first and RBI hits by Jimenez and Stephanie Hua.

With the score 5-1 Toros heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Tritons made CSUDH remember them after scoring five runs to take a 6-5 lead, the big blows coming on 2RBI singles by Monique Portugal and Kris Lesovsky, who finished the day 2-for-3, with 3 RBI, before tacking on another run in the sixth for the final tally.

Christina Chavez, Jimenez and Hua finished with two hits apiece as the Toros dropped their first series of the year.

The Toros return home to Toro Diamond next weekend to host CCAA leader Cal State Monterey Bay, with first pitch of Friday's twinbill set for 12 noon.  The games will be broadcast live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
