TURLOCK -- When you're hot, you're hot.  And that about sums up No. 20 Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team's play of late as evidenced by 11-3 and 12-2 (5) wins over Cal State Stanislaus at the Warrior Softball Field.  The lethal 1-2 offensive punch of Christina Chavez (pictured) and Jessica Hall combined for a 7-for16, 8 RBI, 6 run afternoon, with Jackie Reyes contributing a 4-7, 5 RBI effort in the runaway wins to extend CSUDH's program-best winning streak to 17 games.

With the sweep, CSUDH improves to 17-2 and a perfect 10-0 in CCAA play, while the Warriors drop to 5-16, 0-6 CCAA.

The Toros wasted little time in getting on the board in the opener, scoring twice in both the second and third inings en route to a 4-1 lead, cashing in on three Warriors errors in the two innings.

Up 5-1 heading into the sixth, CSUDH seemed to put the game away with three runs on six hits, courtesy of a 2RBI double by Jessica Hall and an RBI baseknock by Chavez.

After the Warriors cut into their deficit with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make a game of it at 8-3, Chavez left little doubt about game one's outcome after sending a 1-1 pitch from CSUS reliever Kristan Burns deep over the center field fence to bring home Ciara Campos and Khryssi Steele, who opened the inning with a single and hit batter, respectively.

CSUDH starter Lauren Harper, coming off a no-hitter against No. 22 Hawai'i Pacific two days ago, was the beneficiary of the offensive display, tossing 6.1 innings of work in the 11-3 win, fanning 7 while scattering 6 hits in moving to 8-2.

The Warriors played up to their namesake in the nightcap with two runs, before the Toros cut their deficit in half with a single run in the second, the proverbial calm before the storm en route to six runs in the third to blow the game open, the big blows coming on 2RBI hits by Melissa Pacheco and Reyes.

After adding another single run in the fourth, CSUDH put the game away one inning later with four more runs as Daisy Beltran belted a 3-run blast as part of her 3-for-3 effort in the late game, giving the Toros an 11-2 lead before a wild pitch scored Steele for the game's final tally.

Game two starter Stephanie Jimenez, who improved to a perfect 8-0, worked 4.0 innings with seven strikeouts as the Toros exploded for 12 hits in the romp.

In addition to Beltran's three hits, Steele and Chavez aided with two apiece to help keep the Warriors winless in league play.

The two teams go at it again tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one set for an 11 am start on Warrior Softball Field.
