CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills racked up 26 hits and 19 runs while its ace pitching duo of Lauren Harper and Stephanie Jimenez limited visiting Humboldt State to just three hits in posting 11-0 (5) and 8-0 (6) mercy run rule shutout wins on a cool day on Toro Diamond.  Christina Chavez (pictured) went 5-for-6 on the day that included a pair of doubles to lead the hot Toro offense.

With the wins, CSUDH moves to 7-2, 2-0 CCAA, while HSU falls to 4-3, 0-2 CCAA.

Unlike the previous games games in which pitching ruled, the Toro offense proved a worthy complement to head coach Jim Maier's ace staff as it hit .510 on the day with 7 extra base hits and a .765 slugging percentage.

The offense got the ball rolling early in the opener, scoring a two runs in the first, one in the second and five in the third of HSU starter Jennifer Sizemore, who entered the game with a 2-0 record.

In the deluge, Jessica Hall belted a 2-run home run in the first and Khryssi Steele knocked in a pair of runs in the third for the big blows.

That was more than enough for Harper, who fanned nine 'Jacks without issuing a single walk to improve to 3-2 on the year, the lone HSU hit coming via the fourth batter Harper faced.

The nightcap took a little longer for CSUDH's offense to arrive as the Toros plated four runs in the second inning, with Daisy Beltran accounting for three of them after her first dinger of the year over the left center field wall.

After putting up a single run in the fourth on a Hall RBI single, CSUDH put the game away two innings later with three runs, the final blow coming on a Chavez 2RBI single, the fifth hit in six at-bats on the day for the Carson native.

Game two starter Jimenez was just as dominant as her teammate, fanning 10 'Jacks against just two walks while allowing just two hits, occurring in the fourth and sixth frames.

Jimenez helped herself at the plate with a 2-3, 3 runs scored effort, while Hall ended her afternoon going 4-for-8, with 4 RBI for good measure.

The pitchers limited HSU to a .086 batting average against, with all three hits of the single variety.

The two teams will lock horns again tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one set for an 11:00 am start on Toro Diamond.  The game can be heard live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live, with David Smock and KDHR's Darryl Williams calling all the play-by-play action.
