Volleyball Ends Skid With Sweep Over Broncos

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills ended three weeks of disappointment with a resounding sweep over visiting Cal Poly Pomona tonight in the Torodome. Whitney Lee led all attackers with 16 kills in the win.

With the 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 decision, CSUDH improves to 10-16, 8-11 CCAA, while CPP falls to 13-13, 9-8 CCAA.

Set one saw 6 ties and 3 lead changes with Cal Poly Pomoma holding an early lead, until the Toros caught the Broncos at 20-all and scored the last five points of the set after CPP took a 22-20 lead down the stretch for the win, fueled by Elizabeth Krieger's strong serve.

Set two looked to be a carbon copy of the opener as the Broncos built a slight 10-7 lead early, only to have the Toros roar back to tie the set at 21-all.

After CPP looked to gain momentum back wtih consecutive points, two kills by Whitney Lee and one by Krieger was aided by a CPP error, giving the Toros a set two win at 25-23.

The Toros jumped all over Pomona in the third set, turning 3-3 tie in a 10-5 advantage, which turned into a 20-14 commanding lead late. CSUDH put a punctuation mark on the set by taking five of the final seven points in the convincing 25-16 win.

Lee was the only player to eclipse the single-digit kill mark, hitting .353 in the process. Krieger added 9 kills with Azieanna Smith and Prusa adding 8 each.

Freshman Dana Brown posted 40 assists with Rose Greco and Korryne Kelley combining for 29 digs.

CSUDH will look to make it two-straight tomorrow night as Humboldt State visits Carson, with first serve set for 7:00 pm.
