Toros Take Ownership in 2-0 Win Over No. 19 Coyotes


CARSON -- For the second time in as many games, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team was a beneficiary of an own goal as a first half defensive error by No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino preceded a second half score from a #Natalie Barbosa# free kick, accounting for the lone scores in the 2-0 win.

The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes, with each team getting its fair share of offensive changes.

CSUDH's press finally paid dividends in the 22nd minute as a cross heading straight towards a waiting #Niki Poole# just outside the goalmouth found the feet of a late-coming Coyote defender, whose attempted clear resulted in a deflection that eluded CSUSB keeper Tiffany Mallick for the game's first score.

The scoreboard remained the same until the 83rd minute, when Barbosa lined up her free kick 25 yards to the left of Mallick, and buried her attempt in the top corner for her first career collegiate goal.

The Toros turned on their offense after the break, taking a 17-6 shot advantage to bring the game's totals to 26-13 in their favor and causing Mallick to make 8 saves in CSUSB's first loss of the season.

Toro keeper #Tiffany Hollis#, meanwhile, notched 1 save in picking up her third win of the year.

CSUDH, now 3-0, 1-0 CCAA, continues CCAA play against cross-town rival and 11th-ranked Cal State L.A. on Sunday at 11:30 am, after the Golden Eagles fell to 5th ranked UC San Diego by a 1-0 count earlier this evening.
