Win Streak Hits Four as Toros Upend No. 11 Cal State L.A. 1-0

CARSON -- Senior #Jessica Murphy# ended a personal two-game scoring drought with a score at the 2:27 mark, and that was enough as Cal State Dominguez Hills sent No. 11 Cal State L.A. to its second consecutive loss in a 1-0 Toro win that keeps CSUDH perfect in 2011.

Toro keeper #Tiffany Hollis# enjoyed another stellar day, notching her second-consecutive shutout against a ranked opponent after Friday's 2-0 win over No. 19 CS San Bernardino in picking up her fourth win of the year.

Murphy got the Toros on the board quickly, taking a rebounded shot deep inside the CSULA goalmouth and blasting her shot near post for a 1-0 lead just 2:27 into the game.

The visitors kept the pressue on the remainder of the half, tallying a 6-3 shot advantage in the first 45-minute session.

CSULA nearly equalized in the 67th minute after Gabbi Segall dribbled nearly the entire length of the field and sent a cross to the waiting Maddi Meighan.  Meighan, however, with plenty of room near post, shanked her shot wide left to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.

The Golden Eagles duplicated their effort 11 minutes later as Janet Mendez looked to equalize on a one-time attempt after a Norie Pablo cross, but Mendez also missed wide as Hollis' dive looked to narrow Mendez's angle.

Hollis was up to the task the entire game, repelling all 8 shots on goal in sending CSULA to its second-straight 1-0 loss.

Golden Eagle Jessie Walworth was nearly as effective, stopping 6 of 7 shots on the day.

The Toros, now 4-0, 2-0 CCAA, continue their league homestand next weekend as Chico State visits Toro Stadium, with first kick set for 4:30 pm.
