Toros "Own" Antelopes After 2-1 Non-Conference Win

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills benefited from an own goal by visiting Grand Canyon in the 21st minute after #Taylor Canatsey# gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead, and that was the difference in today's 2-1 Toro win over the Antelopes on a hot and sunny Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Toros remain perfect in the early going at 2-0, while the 'Lopes head back to Phoenix searching for its first win of the new year.

The Toros started the scoring early after senior #Jessica Murphy# fed fellow senior Canatsey with a cross that eluded the Antelope defense.  There, Canatsey left-footed her one-timer past GCU keeper Catherine Lena top shelf for the early lead at the 17:37 mark.

That edge doubled three minutes later as a 'Lope defender re-directed a Toro cross from 18 yards out past Lena for a 2-0 CSUDH lead.

GCU, after being shut out by cross-town rival Cal State L.A. last Saturday, cut its deficit in half after PacWest Player of the Year Marina Nesic was sandwiched in the Toro box, resulting in a Toro caution and a 'Lope penalty kick attempt.

Kelli Woodrad converted to bring GCU to within one, but that score proved to be the final scoring of the day in the 2-1 Toro win.

The Toros out-shot the 'Lopes 13-12, and tied on corners at 3-all, with CSUDH keeper #Tiffany Hollis# making 5 saves compared to Lena's 3.

CSUDH, now 2-0, kicks off CCAA Conference play this Friday as Cal State San Bernardino visits Toro Stadium, with first kick set for 4:30 pm.
