Bleeding Stops in Toros' 1-0 Win at SFSU

SAN FRANCISCO -- Riding a four-game skid after winning their first four games, freshman #Sami Feinstein# took matters onto her own feet as she dribbled nearly 60% of the field and sent a blast off the right post and into the net as visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills took a much-needed 1-0 win over reigning CCAA Champion San Francisco State on Friday afternoon.

Feeling a sense of urgency after falling into fifth place in the CCAA's south division poised to play two teams ahead of them in the standings this weekend, the Toros came out aggressively against the Gators in outshooting their hosts 6-4 in the opening frame.

CSUDH keeper #Marissa Graska# and her counterpart Anniccia Jones, however, were both up to the challenage after combining for 4 saves in the first session, including 3 by Jones.

The second half, however, saw the Toros press even more, tallying an 8-4 shot advantage over SFSU.

That push paid dividends in the 71st minute as #Bailey Butcher# sent her pass to Feinstein on the Toros side of the field, where Feinstein did the rest.

Maneuvering between and around Gator defenders, Feinstein sent a right-footed blast through the legs of her closest defender and watched her shot get past a diving Jones and bounce off the left post, ricocheting into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead, and CSUDH's first goal in three games.

That was enough for Graska, making her first start in net for the Toros, who repelled 2 shots in the shutout victory.

CSUDH out-shot SFSU 14-8 and tallied 6 corners to the Gators' 2, with Feinstein tallying a game-high 4 shots in the win.

The Toros, now 5-4, 3-4 CCAA, travel to Pomona on Sunday to face the Broncos, who host Cal State L.A. later tonight.
