Murphy Leads Toros to 2-2 Double Overtime Tie at Cal Poly Pomona

Senior notches fourth multi-goal effort of career against CPP

POMONA -- It's safe to say senior All-American #Jessica Murphy# likes playing Cal Poly Pomona.  After notching 8 goals against the Broncos in her first three seasons as a Toro, including 3 multi-goal efforts, the Torrance native scored twice more this afternoon as the Toros and CPP forged a double overtime 2-2 tie at Kellogg Field.

With the tie, the Toros remain in fifth place in the CCAA's south division with a road trip to northern California on the docket for next week's action.

It didn't take long for the hosts to begin the scoring as Valerie Strawn took a corner in the 3rd minute and sent her shot past CSUDH keeper #Marissa Graska# for a 1-nil lead.

Murphy equalized 18 minutes later after collecting a cross from #Taylor Canatsey# and rifling her blast from 18 yards out into the upper V, where the score would stand heading into intermission.

After the break, Murphy wasted little time in giving the Toros the lead as she took a Nikki Poole throw in and headed her shot past CPP keeper Sarah Rohman with just 1:19 elapsed in the second period.

CSUDH's lead lasted all of 21 minutes as Strawn was on the giving end of the Broncos' second goal, blasting her shot off Graska and onto the waiting feet of Cindy Paez, who punched in the equalizer at 70:47.

Cal Poly Pomona dominated the first overtime with a 3-0 shot advantage, an edge that was reciprocated by the visitors who took a 5-0 shot advantage in the second overtime, with 3 coming via Murphy.

Murphy led the Toros with 16 of the team's 33 shots taken, while the Broncos retaliated with 19 shots of their own, with Graska making 9 saves compared to 14 for Rohman.

The Toros, now 5-4-1, 3-4-1 CCAA, look to keep their two-game unbeaten streak intact next weekend with a pair of northern California contests.
