Murphy Gets 2011 Started Right in 1-0 Win Over Cal Baptist


CARSON -- Senior All-America striker #Jessica Murphy# was cerebral in leading the Toros to a 1-0 win over Cal Baptist this evening, heading in a throw-in from 5 yards out to account for the game's lone score in CSUDH's season opener.

One game after posting a convincing win, Cal Baptist was held scoreless by the energetic Toro defense and stingy keeper duo of starter #Tiffany Hollis and Marissa Graska#, who combined for 7 saves on 12 total shots for the Lancers.

Offensively, Murphy took care of business in the 37th minute after a throw-in by #Colleen McNamee# found the Torrance native just outside the goal line, where a perfectly-timed header eluded Lancer keeper Nicoline Jorgensen for what proved to be the game-winner.

The Toros out-shot CBU 18-12, and enjoyed a 6-2 corner kick advantage.

CSUDH, now 1-0, will host Grand Canyon University in its final non-conference game of the year on Tuesday afternoon, with first kick set for 2:00 pm in Toro Stadium.  The game will be broadcast live on www.GoToros.com/live, with play-by-play announcer David Smock of the Toro Sports Network set to go live at 1:35 pm.
