LOS ANGELES -- Fresh off a hard-fought 1-0 loss at the hands of 4th-ranked UC San Diego last Friday at the Home Depot Center's Main Stadium, Cal State Dominguez Hills suffered its second-consecutive 1-0 loss this afternoon, this time at the hands of cross-town rival Cal State L.A.
Today's loss evens the Toros' record at 4-4 overall, 2-4 CCAA, after winning the first four games of the season. It also evens the regular season record against the Golden Eagles after CSUDH took a 1-0 win over CSULA in the earlier meeting.
Golden Eagle Lisa Ohberg notched the only goal of the game on Sunday, coming in the 70th minute from a terrific shot from outside the box after an unsuccessful clearing attempt by the Toros.
The play was set up by a rush by Gabbi Segall, who dribbled into the box and was involved in a collision with a Toro defender and goalkeeper #
Tiffany Hollis#. The ball rolled to Maddi Meaghan, whose header toward the goal was cleared out of play by a defender.
After the Cal State L.A. throw-in, the ball was crossed into the box and the Toros tried to clear it. Instead, the ball went to Ohberg, who drilled in her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Jessie Walworth and Hollis each made five saves. The save of the game for Walworth was a diving stop of a shot by
Taylor Canatsey in the 69th minute.
It was a rough ending for both goalies. Walworth was upended after snaring a free kick near the goal and was down for several minutes before continuing. Hollis was shaken up when Segall, on another run, dribbled into the box and Hollis collided with her while smothering the ball before a shot could be taken.
CSUDH will return to action on Friday with the first of six consecutive road games, beginning with San Francisco State on Friday.
