No. 4 Tritons Hand Toros Third-Straight Loss in 1-0 Decision

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team came out inspired after a pair of lackluster losses last weekend, but it wasn't enough as 4th-ranked UC San Diego escaped with a 1-0 win at the Home Depot Center's Main Stadium on a cool Friday night.  Freshman #Bailey Butcher# led a second-half charge in the loss.

The 2010 NCAA National Runner-ups showed early why they are ranked in the top 5 nationally, pushing the aciton and keeping the pressure on the Toro defense.  That pressure paid dividends in the 12th minute as a failed clear off a Hayley Johnson corner was collected by Ellen Wilson and deposited into the net off Toro keeper #Tiffany Hollis#' fingertips for a 1-0 UCSD edge that remained entering the half.

After intermission, CSUDH came out as the aggressors, with Butcher and #Yadira Gomez# pushing deep into the Triton zone.

Butcher, espeically, was impressive, often times dribbling around her defender and driving the ball towards the Triton goal.

The UCSD defense, however, was up to the task despite being out-shot 6-3 in the second half, limiting the Toro offense to just one shot on goal in the period.

The Toros, now 4-3, 2-3 CCAA, travel to their cross-town rival for a rematch after taking the first meeting over then No. 11 Cal State L.A. on September 11 in Carson.
