Toros Volleyball Downed by Seawolves in Three

ROHNERT PARK -- In the first match of what will be Cal State Dominguez Hills longest trip away from home, they faced a Sonoma State Seawolves squad that was undefeated in league play.  Friday night's match went the way of the home team with SSU defeating CSUDH in three sets.  Senior #Olivia White# had a well rounded performance, leading the team in assists (23) and digs (8) while adding three block assists.

A quick 11-3 start by the Seawolves proved to be too much for the Toros as they could not bridge the gap.  SSU took set one by a 25-15 final with six Toros hitting errors hurting their chances.  Junior middle blocker #Delea Pursel# started out well with three kills in the set coming on only five swings.

Set two was very closely played throughout as CSUDH was able to take a lead midway through at 13-12.  The score was tied at 16 before a 7-0 run by the hosts turned the tide with the final score ending up 25-18.  Freshman #Azieanna Smith# had a team-high four kills in the set.

The third and final set started out close before a 6-0 run turned a one-point deficit into a seven points.  CSUDH fought until the very end but was unable to close the deficit, falling 25-13 to lose the match in three sets.

For the match the Toros outblocked the Seawolves seven to five but faltered in large part due to the hitting percentage difference of .314 to .102.  Smith led the team with eight kills while Pursel trailed by only one with seven. Sophomore #Abbey Prusa# proved a big block game, tabulating one solo block to go along with three block assists.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, now 1-8 and 0-5 in the CCAA, will venture out to Humboldt country to play the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State University in Arcata Saturday night at 7:00pm.
