No. 14 Toros Drop Second-Consecutive 3-1 Decision, This Time to No. 23 CS Stanislaus

CARSON -- What was billed as a promising weekend -- a No. 14 ranking in the NSCAA and a CCAA Player of the Week honor -- quickly became a forgettable one as Cal State Dominguez Hills dropped its second-consecutive 3-1 decision of the weekend, this time to No. 23 CS Stanislaus.  Senior #Jessica Murphy# tallied the lone score for the Toros in the loss.

Today's contest was deja vu all over again as the visitors scored the first three goals before the Toros put one on the board.

CSUS began the offense in the 24th minute as Alexia Poon took a cross deep in the CSUDH goalmouth and tapped her shot over reigning CCAA Player of the Week #Tiffany Hollis#.  The Warriors doubled their advantage six minutes later as Karenee Demery sped her way up the right sideline and through a number of Toro defenders before shuttling her cross to a waiting Liz Scherrer, who deposited her shot past Hollis for a 2-0 lead.

After the half, an Emily Relles free kick from 25 yards out deflected off Karli Nestler and into the back of the net to increase CSUS' lead to 3-nil.

But just like Friday, Murphy got the Toros on the board, this time after taking a Kelly Boyle pass and lobbing her shot over Warrior keeper Millie Brown's head to cut their deficit to 3-1.  Thhat would be CSUDH"s lone score, however, in its second-consecutive 3-1 loss, only the second-ever loss to CS Stanislaus after winning the first 17 meetings between the two schools.

The Toros enjoyed a 16-8 shot advantage, but CSUS' aggressiveness when attacking paid immediate dividends compared to CSUDH's mis-connections.

Hollis was credited with 4 saves while Brown tallied 6 in the win.

CSUDH, now 4-2, 2-2 CCAA, finishes its long league homestand with a Friday showdown against No. 5 UC San Diego, which took a 4-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona earlier today.  The game will be played at the Home Depot Center's Main Stadium, and will be broadcast live on www.GoToros.com/live.
