Chico State Knocks No. 14 Toros From Ranks of Unbeaten, 3-1

CARSON -- Visiting Chico State scored early and often in taking a 3-1 win over No. 14 Cal State Dominguez Hills on a cool Friday afternoon.  Senior #Jessica Murphy# notched the lone score for the Toros on a converted penalty kick in the second half, but it was too little too late in the loss.

The night started ominously for the hosts as karma came back to bite them early.  After being the beneficiary of two own goals in the first four games, the Toros were on the wrong end of this own score after a Wildcat corner kick deflected off an unknowing Toro defender and past reigning CCAA Player of the Week #Tiffany Hollis# for a 1-0 lead at the 5:12 mark.

CSUDH's deficit doubled 13 minutes later after Alyx Williams launched her shot from outside the box and placed it perfectly over the outstretched arms of Hollis for a 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats added their third goal in the first 21 minutes after a Lisa Webster cross found Kasey Wall in the Toro goalmouth, who beat Hollis for a 3-0 lead.

The Toros, who out-shot the visitors 13-3 for the game, finally got on the board after #Jessica Murphy# was tackled in the box for a penalty kick attempt, one she buried far post to cut their deficit to 3-1.

But that was too little too late as Chico State keeper Brianna Furner picked up the win after stopping 2 shots on frame.

CSUDH, now 4-1, 2-1 CCAA, looks to get back on track against No. 23 CS Stanislaus, which tied Cal State L.A. 1-1 in double overtime earlier tonight.
