Softball on Both Ends of 8-0 Decisions on Day Two of TOC

TURLOCK -- After scoring just six runs in three games yesterday, Cal State Dominguez Hills broke out of its offensive slumber with an 8-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur on day two of the Tournament of Champions, before being blanked by Central Washington by the same score in the final game of pool play.  Senior Cassandra Snodgrass enjoyed a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate in the early game win.

With the split, the Toros move to 19-16 overall.

CSUDH scored a pair of runs in each of the first three innings to take command of its first game early, thanks to RBI baseknocks by Emiley McEwen, Jessica Hall and Khryssi Steele, a sacrifice fly by Krista Gould and a 2 run error by the Argos.

After being held scoreless over the next two frames, the Toros put the game away in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Jimenez and the last of Snodgrass' three hits on the day, a bleeder to the catcher with the bases loaded to complete the 6-inning, mercy run rule contest.

Lauren Harper was the beneficiary of the offense as she improved to 8-6, allowing just four hits in 4.0 innings of work.

In the late game against the Wildcats, Central Washington scored twice in the first, single runs in the third, fourth and fifth, and three in the six to cap the 8-0 win as CWU pitcher Lauren Hadenfeld limited the Toros to just two hits in the win while her offense belted 15 as the Wildcats evened their record at 11-11 on the year.

McEwen and Hall collected a hit apiece, while Samantha Petrich's 3 hits led six CWU players who tallied at least two hits as starter Harper suffered the loss after lasting just 2.1 innings.

The Toros will move onto bracket play tomorrow morning against Western Oregon in the Platinum bracket, set for a 9:00 am first pitch.  The winner of that game will face the winner of CS San Bernardino/Notre Dame de Namur match-up at 2:30 pm for the Platinum bracket title.
