Jimenez Leads Toros to 2-0 Nightcap Split as CSUDH Takes 3-1 Series Win Over #10 UC San Diego

CARSON -- Sophomore pitcher-turned-hitter Stephanie Jimenez helped herself both in the circle and at the plate as she held 10th-ranked UC San Diego to just 2 hits while collecting CSUDH's lone hit at the plate in the form of a 2RBI double that gave the Toros a 2-0 win in the nightcap after the Tritons blanked CSUDH 7-0 in the opener.

Game two was a pitcher's duel as the two starters combined to allow just two hits over the first 3.5 innings of play.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jimenez took the game over at the plate after two Toros reached bacse on a hit batter and walk as she turned on the first pitch she saw from counterpart Tess Granath and belted a rope that went off right fielder Katrin Gabriel's glove for a double and two runs batted in.

That was plenty for the Norwalk native as she retired the final 12 batters she faced to pick up her 10th win of the year.

Jimenez's blast was CSUDH's lone hit of the game, in a contest that featured just three hits between the two teams.

The opener was all UCSD as the Tritons awoke from yesterday's one-run effort with a run in the first, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the decisive win.  CSUDH starter Lauren Harper allowed four earned runs as her defense committed four errors in the loss.

UCSD shortstop Mya Romero and third base Sarah Woofter led the Triton attack with two hits each.

The Toros, who moved to 17-9, 11-9 CCAA, take a month-long hiatus from Toro Diamond as their next and final homestand will begin on April 15, against Chico State.
