CARSON -- Junior Khryssi Steele displayed nerves of steel as the Toros remained undefeated on the new season defeating visiting Notre Dame de Namur by 3-2 and 5-4 scores, the latter going 11 innings as CSUDH improved to 4-0 to begin the 2011 campaign.

After the Argos put up two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, the Toros replied an inning later on RBI singles by Daisy Beltran and reigning CCAA MVP Emiley McEwen to tie the score at 2-2, before a booming double by Steele, her second hit of the contest, two innings later brought home Destiney Ruiz for the eventual game-winner.

In a pitcher's game, starter Stephanie Jimenez out-dueled Argo Hillary Ruddick for the win, after Lauren Harper provided a respite in NDDN's two-run second inning.

The nightcap looked to be the opposite of the opener after the teams combined for five runs in the first inning, with a Cassandra Snodgrass double with the bases loaded brought home two runs, with the third run of the frame coming home on a NDDN miscue.

That's where the game remained until the top of the seventh when Allissa Castro roped a double to left to bring home leadoff hitter Janae Reyes with the game-tying run.

After Danielle Gray belted a 2-1 offering from Jimenez well over the center field wall to lead off the 9th inning only to have the Toros reply with a McEwen sacrifice fly to again knot the score, the second Argo error of the game proved costly after its center fielder bobbled a Steele single with Ruiz on second base, allowing her to scamper home with her second game-winning run of the day.

Jimenez picked up her second win of the day after 4.0 innings of work, scattering four hits and allowing one earned run.

Steele finished with 3 hits on the afternoon, while Snodgrass tallied a pair of RBI in the sweep.

CSUDH, now 4-0 to begin the year, will kick off CCAA Conference play on February 11, for a pair of games against CS Stanislaus.
