Toros Swept by CS San Bernardino in Resumed CCAA Series

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team continued its offensive production in the opening game of today's twinbill, but visiting CS San Bernardino enjoyed more offense in its 13-6 win to kick off "Think Pink" Tuesday on Toro Diamond, and followed that with a 3-2 nail-biter in the nightcap to take 3-of-4 in the regular season series.  Krista Gould belted her second home run in as many games to highlight CSUDH's effort.

With the losses, the Toros fall to 7-5, 3-5 CCAA, while the Coyotes improve to 11-3, 7-1 CCAA.

The visitors kicked off the opener with 3 runs and 4 hits, the big blow coming on a Courtney Wilhelms 2RBI double, only to have the Toros answer with 3 of their own an inning later as Gould's blast over the left center field fence knotted the game at 3-3.

That momentum was short-lived, however, as CSUSB scored six unanswered runs over the next four innings over their next four at-bats to seemingly put the game away.

A game Toro comeback netted two in the sixth to cut the lead to 9-5, but CSUSB answered that with 4 in the 7th that included a 2RBI baseknock by Alex Mitchell and a successful double-steal of home plate.

Daisy Beltran and Jessica Hall each belted two hits in the loss, with Gould supplying half the RBI total with three in the game.

The nightcap provided a stark contrast to the opener as starters Brianne Godfredson and CSUDH's Stephanie Jimenez settled down after all the runs were scored in the first three innings.

CSUSB's first at-bat of the nightcap was enough, as 4 hits and a Toro error led to a 3-run frame.

The Toros plugged away at their deficit with single runs in both the second and third innings, courtesy of a Hall RBI single and Brittany Brenner RBI groundout, but Godfredson allowed just two hits over the next four innings to earn her first victory of the year.

Aside from that first inning, Jimenez was just as solid, allowing three hits over her final six innings of work in picking up the loss.

On the afternoon, two Toros saw their first action of the year in freshman pitcher Karen Peterson and junior outfielder Krissi Sylvis, the latter hanging up her basketball shoes for softball cleats after spending the majority of the season on the hardwood.

The Toros take to the road for consecutive league weekends, beginning this Friday with a twinbill at San Francisco State.
