Toros Drop Front End of Weekend Finale at CS Stanislaus

TURLOCK -- Sophomore Elizabeth Krieger tallied a team-high 8 kills and added 6 digs, but host CS Stanislaus boasted two players with double-figure kills in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 sweep over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills in the front end of the regular season's final weekend.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 1-24, 0-21 CCAA, while the Warriors improve to 10-16, 6-16 CCAA.

The Warriors played like their namesake at the match's outset, taking a 5-0 lead over their guests.

The Toros, however, cut their deficit to just 9-8 on a Delea Pursel putaway, before CSUS went on an 11-5 run to take control of the game en route to the 25-18 set one win.

CSUDH came out strong in set two, enjoying three early leads until CSUS again went on a run to seize control of the set, this time by a 13-5 count to take a 20-13 lead before putting the Toros away in a 25-19 final.

After the extended break, the Warriors took early control of set three and never relented despite the Toros forging 5 ties early on, turning an 8-7 lead into a 22-13 advantage before putting away set three 25-15, and taking the match 3-0.

The Warriors took advantage of their .306 to .106 hitting percentage favor in the sweep as Lianne Vicchio posted a match-high 14 kills with Eva Chafeh adding 10 in the sweep.

Nikki Casatrellon posted the highest hitting percentage on the night at .600, connecting on 3 kills on just 5 swings.

CSUDH will conclude its 2011 campaign tomorrow night at Chico State, with first serve set for 7:00 pm.
