Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Toros on Short End of 1-0 Blanking at Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK -- Pundits say that baseball is a game of inches.  Turns out, so is women's soccer after a CSUDH penalty kick attempt went awry and a SSU shot attempt went just off Toro keeper #Tiffany Hollis#' fingertips to give host Sonoma State a 1-0 win in a key CCAA match-up.

Despite a slim 7-6 shot advantage in the first session, the Toros aggressive nature turned into SSU keeper Alexis Sciacqua making 4 saves in the frame compared to just one by Hollis.

The biggest save of the period came in the 7th minute after senior All-American #Jessica Murphy# was awarded a penalty kick at the 6:38 mark, only to have the Seawolf keeper repel Murphy's attempt.

That momentum paid nearly immediate dividends as Sonoma State capitalized just 13 minutes later after an entry pass by Megan Foy found Elena Catania, whose blast went off Hollis' fingertips and into the goal for a quick 1-0 lead.

With a whole half left to play, both defenses stood their ground to keep the opposing strikers out of the net, with the Seawolves keying on Murphy, who wound up with 10 of the team's 12 shots on the day.

The Seawolves, meanwhile, spread their offensive wealth as three players took at least 2 shots in the win, while improving to 6-5-1, 6-3-1 CCAA.

CSUDH, now 6-5-1, 4-5-1 CCAA, has just six regular season games to get back into race to make the CCAA tournament, beginning with a road date at CS San Bernardino next Friday.
