Murphy's Early Second-Half Score Proves Difference in 1-0 Win at HSU

ARCATA -- Senior All-American #Jessica Murphy# out-shot the entire Humboldt State squad 12-9, but the lone category that mattered was her score in the 49th minute as the visiting Toros took an otherwise dominating 1-0 win over the host 'Jacks in Friday afternoon league play.

With the win, the Toros brought themselves back to the .500 mark in league play at 4-4-1, with Sunday's showdown against Sonoma State looming.

The Toros got out of the blocks early against the Lumberjacks, enjoying a 10-2 shot advantage in the first period and making HSU keeper Amber Woolcock make 4 saves to keep the game scoreless heading into intermission.

After the break, CSUDH wasted little time in notching the game's first goal as a long throw-in by #Sami Feinstein# bounced around in the HSU goalmouth, where it was collected by Murphy and sent past Woolcock for a 1-0 lead.

CSUDH continued its offensive assault in the half en route to 15-7 shot and 4-0 corner kick advantages, keeping the pressure on the 'Jack defense.

HSU did mount its own rally as Toro keeper #Tiffany Hollis# made 3 of 4 total saves after halftime, but it was not enough as the Lumberjacks suffered their third-consecutive 1-0 blanking, and fifth-consecutive shutout loss.

The Toros, now 6-4-1, 4-4-1 CCAA, continue northern California league action as they battle Sonoma State on Sunday at 11:30 am, with the Seawolves currently tied for the North Division lead but trailing No. 15 Cal State L.A. 3-0 late in the second half.
