Lumberjacks Come All the Way Back in 3-2 Heartbreaker Over Toros

CARSON -- It wasn't as dramatic as Game 6 of yesterday's World Series, but visiting Humboldt State staged its own improbable comeback tonight after trailing two sets to none, rallying for an 18-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-10 win over a game Toro squad.  Elizabeth Krieger posted a match-high 22 kills while adding 12 digs in the loss.

The Toros roared out of the gates in the opener, building a 20-9 lead over their guests as Delea Pursel led CSUDH with 5 kills with two Toros notching 4 kills each en route to a 25-18 win.

Set two was closer as the 'Jacks found their southern California legs, keeping the set as close as 23-21.  Behind kills by Azieanna Smith and Whitney Crosby, however, CSUDH took 3 of the final 4 points in the 25-22 win, and a 2 sets to none lead.

The visitors stopped the bleeding in set three after hitting .263 compared to just .133 for the Toros in their 25-18 win, while taking a 25-20 set four win after eeking out a .167 to .133 hitting edge.

Inflated by evening the match at 2-2, Humboldt State took a 5-point lead in the deciding frame at 10-5, and split the final 10 points in completing its comeback win to keep the Toros winless in league play.

The Toros enjoyed a +7 edge in kills, but committed 9 more errors than HSU, while the 'Jacks enjoyed a 13.0 to 4.0 block advantage in the 5-set thriller.

CSUDH, now 1-20, 0-17 CCAA, concludes its regular season homestand tomorrow night as No. 22 Sonoma State visits the Torodome, with the Toros honoring their three seniors prior to the contest.
