Heartbreak Continues as Late Goal Pushes No. 6 Tritons Past Toros, 1-0

LA JOLLA -- After a promising start to the 2011 campaign which saw a four-game win streak to open the year including victories over two ranked opponents to kick off California Collegiate Athletic Association play, the Toros suffered their third-straight shutout in a 1-0 loss at No. 6 UC San Diego this afternoon, dropping them to 6-7-1, and 4-7-1 in league play.

The Toros gave the 6th-ranked hosts all they could handle on a cloudy and cool afternoon, matching each UCSD offensive attack with gusto for the first 88 minutes of regulation.

In the 89th minute, however, a Cassie Callahan pass into the box found the feet of Courtney Capobianco, who lifted her shot over keeper #Tiffany Hollis#' head for the game-winner.

This result gives the Tritons the season sweep over the Toros after taking an identical 1-0 win in Carson in late September.

The Toros ended up with identical 5-4 shot edges in both periods, but could not push one past UCSD keeper Kristin Armstrong, who ended the game with 3 saves.

Hollis, meanwhile, made 2 saves herself to keep the Toros in the contest, until Capobianco's attempt eluded her with less than two minutes left in the game.

CSUDH will look to get its offense going at home next weekend as it hosts Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at 4:30 pm in Toro Stadium, also helping raise awareness with its "Think Pink" campaign as part of the campus' "Homecoming" festivities.
