Errors Prove Costly for Toros in 3-0 Loss to Otters

SEASIDE -- Landing 11 kills and grabbing 14 digs, Denise DeVine knotted her fifth double-double of the season as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team fell in a hotly contested 3-0 decision to the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay after outplaying their hosts in kills, assists and digs.

The Toros landed more kills (41-35), dished more assists (40-33), and grabbed more digs (53-42) than their hosts, but in the end the Otters considerably less margin of attack errors (10-22) gave them the sweeping win.

Grabbing eight kills on the night, Ashley Clark brought her career total to 641, two shy of placing her at No. 10 on the Toros' all-time career lists.

Coming out strong from the onset, the Toros quickly built an 11-9 lead in set one before an eight-point rush from CSUMB gave way to the eventual 25-22 loss.

The visitors' strongest chance of a set win came in the second as the lead changed hands a total of ten times before the hosts grabbed another win at 27-25.

Elizabeth Krieger landed the final point for the Toros in the set with the score tied at 25-all before two straight for the Otters gave them the win.

Unable to come out strong in the third and final set, CSUMB did not once relinquish the lead before a final 25-18 win.

Also grabbing double-digit kills on the night was Elaine Hicks with 11, while Cassidy Mangum dished 20 assists and Hilary Hougardy grabbed 11 digs.

The Toros, now 1-10 overall and 1-5 in the CCAA, will take to the road again next week as they travel back north to face off against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers at 3:00pm.
