Toros Save Best for Last as 4x400 Relay Squad Nets All-America Finish

Junior Nancy Blake anchored the CSUDH 4x400 team to an All-America finish at the 2010 Outdoor T&F Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After a disappointing first two days of competition at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships that saw the Toros fail to qualify in six tries, and then a third day that saw the seventh unsuccessful attempt at garnering an All-America award earlier this evening, the CSUDH 4x400 relay squad broke through with a seventh-place finish that gave the Toros their lone All-America awards of the championships.

After seeing its 4x100 relay squad finish 11th in yesterday's heat, the quartet of Breionna Jackson, Chanel Parker, Dora Baldwin and Nancy Blake (pictured) made sure CSUDH didn't return to Carson empty handed as the squad shattered its previous best of 3:47.04 set at the Cal/Nevada meet by crossing the line in a time of 3:44.08, just 0.21 seconds behind sixth-place Fort Valley State, but 0.31 ahead of eighth-place UC San Diego.

This seventh-place finish gives Parker her third All-America award of her career, and is the first for freshman Jackson, sophomore Baldwin and freshman Blake.

Earlier in the day, Parker finished 13th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.31, an event that garnered her an All-America at last year's championships in which she ran a 13.97.

The Toros will look to improve upon this year's results in the 2011 season, led by seniors Parker and Blake, junior Baldwin and sophomores Jackson and Monikkia White, who claimed the 2010 CCAA Freshman of the Year honors at the CCAA Championships earlier this month.
