Softball Moves Into 3rd in CCAA After Dominating 5-1 & 9-2 Sweep at CS San Bernardino

Game 1  |  Game 2

SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior Amber Angel belted two of CSUDH's five home runs on the day as the Toros grabbed a 5-1 decision in the opener before closing out the sweep with a 9-2 decision at CS San Bernardino, moving into 3rd place in the CCAA with just six games left in the regular season.  With her blasts and 4-for-5, 3RBI day, Angel established the CSUDH record for home runs in a career.

Angel's two bombs on the day seat her with 16 in her career, surpassing previous record-holder Jackie Miller, who belted 15 homers between 2005 and 2006.

In game one, the Coyotes sent one over the fence first as Britney Butler gave them a 1-0 lead in the third with a solo shot.

It took only the top of the next frame for the CSUDH rebuttal as Angel sent her shot long to tie the game, subsequently tying the Toro mark for home runs in a career, before Michelle Miranda punched the game-winner in the fifth on her solo shot.

After an RBI-double, also in the fifth, Emiley McEwen added one more on the board in the seventh with a solo shot to end the game at 5-1, also putting her at 15 home runs in her CSUDH career.

Angel started off the game two win, belting a shot in her first at-bat.  Also going yard, Caitlin McGrath added the Toros' fourth run in the fifth frame, belting her shot over right-center.

Logging four innings from the circle, Lauren Harper grabbed the game one win, fanning four 'Yote batters and scattering only four hits before Stephanie Jimenez closed out the final three frames to register the save.

Both hurlers swapped rotation in the nightcap with Jimenez starting in action to fan four batters and scatter only two hits.  In relief, Harper also gave up only two hits, fanning one batter before picking up her second win of the day.

The pair of wins couldn't have come at a better time as the Toros now move up to No. 3 in the CCAA, while looking to improve their NCAA West Region No. 10 mark with a sweep.

The Toros, now 26-18 and 18-12 in the CCAA will continue the all-important in-region series with a twinbill tomorrow, with first pitch set for 12 noon.
