Epic Comeback Fuels Sweep Over CS Stanislaus

McEwen in a home run trot was a familiar site in today's sweep

TURLOCK -- Down by four heading into the seventh inning of the nightcap after taking a 7-1 win in the opener, CS Dominguez Hills erupted for eight runs on seven hits in their final at-bat to take an 8-5 win in game two, the big blows courtesy of an Emiley McEwen (pictured) bases clearing double and an Amber Angel home run to follow McEwen's blast.

Spotting the hosts a 4-0 lead and being limited to just two hits entering their last at-bats, the Toros enjoyed their biggest offensive inning of the year, banging out seven hits and eight runs to stun the Warriors and their home crowd.

Four-consecutive hits to start the inning knocked CSUS starter Jennifer Arnold from the game, where reliever Brittni Weatherford lasted just one batter, allowing an RBI single to Katie Jordan that prompted Arnold to make her return.

Arnold then proceeded to plunk Katie Garcia to load the bases, setting the stage for McEwen, who ripped a bases-clearing double to left center to give CSUDH a 6-4 lead, before Angel cleared the bases herself with an insurance blast, and an 8-4 lead as the Toros settled for the dramatic 8-5 win.

CSUDH game two starter Wendy Espindola picked up the win after hurling 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts, while Angel and Krista Gould led the Toros with two hits apiece, and McEwen with three RBI.

The Toros took control of the opener in the first two innings, taking a 1-0 lead on an Angel RBI triple in the first, and a 5-0 lead after two, the big blow courtesy of a McEwen big fly.

McEwen duplicated her feat to lead off the 4th inning, before a Warrior error gave CSUDH another run in the 5th, and a 7-0 lead as the Toros took a 7-1 win in the opener.

Stephanie Jimenez picked up the win, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just one earned run, while McEwen and Jordan led the offense with two hits apiece.

CSUDH, now 13-9, 8-8 CCAA, returns home next weekend to host CCAA-newcomer Cal State East Bay for a four-game set, with the first twinbill set for a 1:00 pm start on Friday, on Toro Diamond.
