Relay Teams Shine in Annual Cal/Nevada Championships at UCLA


LOS ANGELES -- Both Toro relay teams dominated through the finish at the annual Cal/Nevada Championships, hosted this past weekend bu UCLA at Drake Stadium.  Anchored by Chanel Parker in the 4x100 and Monique Joseph in the 4x400, both teams bested all other NCAA Division II competitors in their respective heats to highlight action.

In the 4x100 the quartet of Monikkia White, Destiny Tyler, Breionna Jackson and Parker got even closer to a berth in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, posting a fourth-place time of 46.65, 0.65-seconds over an automatic qualifying time.

The time is not only a season high in '10 but is also No. 5 on the Toros' all-time top-lists and placed the Toros well ahead of their closest D-II foe, Cal State L.A., whom came in at tenth.

The 4x400 team was just as fast, comprised of Nancy Blake, Parker, Dora Baldwin and Joseph they finished in fourth as well with a finish of 3:47.04, ahead of the nearest D-II finish of UC San Diego in seventh.

The finish is also third on the Toros' all-time tops list and was the second provisional qualifying time of the day for the Toros.

Individually, the best success came to Blake, with a 54.96 time in the 400m dash she is the fir automatic qualifier for the Toros in the 2010 season and is not guaranteed a sport in the outdoor championships.

Also of note, Parker posted a career best time in the 100m hurdles at 14-seconds flat, the third time this year she has posted a provisional qualifying time in the event.

The Toros will look to continue their recent improvement as they travel to Pomona this weekend to take a shot in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.
