Softball Defies Two Blistering Losses to Grab Berth in Gold Bracket After Day Two of Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team saw their bats falls silent in a 6-2 loss to Dixie State College before being blanked a 2-0 to Western Washington in the day's closer.  Despite the losses, CSUDH managed to
secure a berth in the gold bracket of the 9th Annual Tournament of Champions.  Bringing in the only runs for the Toros was Amber Angel with a 2RBI single in game one.

With only five total hits in action against Dixie State, the Toros scored in only one frame on Angel's 2RBI slice through the left side that would bring in both Jessica Hall and Katie Garcia.

Recording the loss, Stephanie Jimenez fanned six batters in 4.1 frames while giving up all six runs on 9 hits against the Red Storm.

The Toros, who entered the day with the fourth highest team batting average among a field of 22 teams, saw their bats cool off even more against Western Washington with only one hit, a Rose Vargas single through the right.

Lauren Harper did all she could for the Toros from the circle, fanning two Viking batters in seven straight frames, scattering only four hits.

Lauren Quint was near flawless for the victors, fanning five Toro batters and giving up only one hit.

The Toros, now 19-14 overall, will look to repeat or best their run in last year's tournament as they fell to Hawai'i Pacific in the gold bracket championship.  CSUDH will face have a chance at redemption as they will face the No. 3 Sea Warriors tomorrow at 11:30am.
