Toros Grab Decisive 77-65 Win Over Cal State San Bernardino

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team picked an all-important night to grab a win, posting a 77-65 decision over the visiting Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino, increasing their chances of a postseason bid. With 28 points and five steals, Neka Mixon dominated from the floor to lead her team.

The Toros couldn't have picked a better to get hot, with 16:56 left in the first and facing an 8-2 deficit two Brandie McCann freebies started an 11-0 run that brought the Toros up to an 13-8 lead.

The Coyotes grabbed two following an Ashlee Ford lay with 7:28 left to grab their last lead of the game at 17-16.

From then on the hosts consistently outpaced CSUSB going into the break with an 36-25 lead.

With the win fully in their hands late in the second, Mixon grabbed two more towards her total, sinking a driving bucket to give CSUDH a 17 point lead with 1:21 left, their biggest of the game.

CSUDH got their last say by way of an MacKenzie Mathias freebie, granting them the win at 77-65.

The Toros sizzled from the floor, shooting 54.3% with an impressive 60.9% in the second half alone.  The 54.3% mark is now a single game high in the 2009-10 season for the Toros.

Mixon was deadly from the floor with 28 points, the eighth time she has shot 20+ this season.  Mixon also kept her rebounds/g healthy, grabbing seven in the contest.

Also in double-figures for the Toros, McCann came in with 15 points while Whitney Gantt added 14.

The Coyotes posted a trio in double-digit scoring with Krystal Urzua taking the lead at 20.

The win improves the Toros to a 10-14 overall mark (9-10 CCAA).  CSUDH will see action again tomorrow as they host the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona with opening tip-off set for 5:30pm.
