Toros Feel the Love in 6-5 Win Over No. 11 Humboldt State on Hall's Walk-Off

CARSON -- Freshman Jessica Hall gave the Toro Diamond crowd a thrill on Valentines Day after driving a one-out single to right field with the game tied and a runner on third base to give CSUDH a thrilling 6-5 win over 11th-ranked Humboldt State in a non-conference single game, improving the Toros to 6-1 on the year.

After spotting the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead in the first on an Allson Blenis 2RBI double, the Toros replied with three runs in their at-bat as Caitlin McGrath roped a one on, one-out sinking liner to right that scooted under diving Giavanna Hampton's glove, allowing the speedster to race around the bags for an inside the park home run, her first round-tripper of the year.

McEwen then followed with a screaming line drive over the center field fence on a 3-1 pitch, knocking HSU starter Gracie Perez from the game.

The Toros added single runs in the 2nd and 4th before the 'Jacks replied, notching a solo run in the 5th that could've been much more after loading the bases before Toro starter Stephanie Jimenez induced an inning-ending foul out to end the threat.

Wendy Espindola then entered in the 6th, but proceeded to throw 10 straight pitches outside the strike zone before Nikki Ketteringham belted an opposite field double down the left field line to cut the lead to 5-4, followed by a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 5-5, prompting Jimenez to re-enter the contest to stop the bleeding.

That's where the score remained until the bottom of the 7th when McGrath singled to start the frame, advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice and to third on a fielder's choice after some heady base running, before scoring on Hall's poke through the right side.

Jimenez gutted out a win after allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs, posting her 3rd victory in as many starts against the Lumberjacks.  McGrath led the CSUDH offense with a 2-for-4, 2RBI, 2 run performance, while Blenis collected 3 hits for HSU in the loss, which fell to 2-5 overall.

CSUDH, now 6-1, 3-1 CCAA, resumes league action on Friday as Sonoma State makes its way south for an 11:00 am first pitch.
