Toros Split Pair of 1-0 Contests Against No. 11 Humboldt State

CARSON -- Freshman pitcher Stephanie Jimenez was far from freshman-like in CSUDH's home opener against visiting and 11th-ranked Humboldt State as the Norwalk native fanned seven Lumberjacks and scattered just four hits in the Toros' 1-0 game one win, before the visitors turned the tables with a 1-0 win in the nightcap.

The Toros got the only run they would need in the 3rd as Katie Garcia singled home Michelle Miranda in the opener, who poked a one-out single to right and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt.

Jimenez proved worthy of the first start of her college career, limiting the 'Jacks to just their for hits, including two by Giavanna Hampton and facing just four batters over the minimum for a 7-inning contest.

The visitors, however, got on the board in their first at-bat of the nightcap as clean-up hitter Courtney Hiatt grounded out to second base, allowing lead-off hitter Nikki Ketteringham to scamper home from third base with what would prove to be the game's lone run.

HSU starter Gracie Perez and CSUDH starter Wendy Espindola battled for the remainder of the game, allowing five total hits between them.  In the end, however, Perez's squad got the final say in the nightcap in the 1-0 win.

CSUDH, now 3-1, 1-1 CCAA, and the 'Jacks resume their four-game conference set tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11:00 am on Toro Diamond.
