Toros Fight Hard Before Gators Chomp Way to Final 3-1 Decision

CARSON-- In a match containing 25 ties and 11 lead changes, Cal State Dominguez Hills fought valiantly before succumbing to San Francisco State 3-1.  Lead by a quartet of freshman, the Toros did amass seven team blocks to continue to raise their season average.  Freshman Elizabeth Krieger showed her well-rounded skills with 13 kills to go along with nine digs on the afternoon.

During the first set, CSUDH was within striking distance throughout until the Gators went on a tear to take the set 25-17.  Abbey Prusa was the most effective hitter with three kills on only six attempts to start the match.

The second set was hotly contested with a match high four lead changes, with the final decision going to the Gators at 25-21, with SFSU's Lauren Walsh taking over the set with seven of her team's 16 kills.

After the ten-minute intermission, both teams played extremely well with neither team being able to take a lead of more than two points.  It was the Toros' defense that set the tone with 6-plus digs coming from three players and 2-plus block assists coming from another two.  Krieger had her best set with four kills and eight digs, helping CSUDH take a 25-23 set win.

Despite the momentum, SFSU powered its way by the Toros in the fourth, never allowing them in get within striking distance and handling the final set in a 25-17 score. On the match CSUDH held the Gators to only .208 in hitting and three team blocks.

To go along with freshman Krieger, Denise DeVine (seven kills, seven digs), Prusa (seven kills, three blocks) and Hicks, with her team high 14 kills and four blocks, were instrumental, while Celeste Tuioti-Mariner led with 21 digs and Olivia White led with 39 assists.
