GOLDEN, Colo. -- After being pushed to five sets yesterday on day one of the Colorado School of Mines-hosted Oredigger Volleyball Classic, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team could only capture one set in two matches today, getting swept by the hosts in the early game before falling in four to Rockhurst in the late match.

Ryann Bennett tied for a team-high five blocks in the in the nightcap.
Despite just three attack errors in the first two sets of the opener, the Orediggers proved too much in racing to a 2-0 lead. That obstacle was too difficult to overcome for the Toros, who tallied eight kills but committed nine errors in the third set in falling to the hosts.
Rilee Graham tallied five kills to lead the Cardinal and Gold, with
Lainey Johnson saving 23 balls to lead the defensive charge.
After dropping the opener in the late match, the Toros hit .435 to take their first set of the day in a 25-23 decision. Trailing 7-3 early, CSUDH rattled off four-straight points to forge a tie behind
Dakota Carvo's strong serve. Knotted again at 16 after a
Keilyn Flores service ace, the Toros built a 22-17 lead, again behind Carvo's service acumen.
The Hawks would claw to within a point at 22-21, but after a timely Toro sub, a kill by Natalia Walden-Schultz and Rockhurst service error set the stage for Bennett as the true freshman put away a
Giovannina De Sisto ball to knot the match at 1-1.
Rockhurst regained momentum in set three by holding the Toros to a 0.00 hitting percentage, only to have CSUDH regroup in set for with 14 kills and just two errors.
The Hawks, however, one-upped the Cardinal and Gold with 17 kills against just four errors in taking the set 25-20, and the match 3-1.
Carvo paced the Toros with 10 kills, and was followed by nine kills each from Graham and Bennett, in the loss.
CSUDHÂ will conclude the Oredigger Classic tomorrow morning against Northern State University, with first serve set for 8:30 am Pacific Standard Time.
