No. 24 Chico State Snaps Toros' Four-Game Win Streak in 2-1 Win

CARSON -- Freshman #Yadira Gomez# netted her second goal in as many games, but this time it wasn't enough to answer two earlier scores by No. 24 Chico State in the Wildcats' 2-1 win to snap CSUDH's four-game win streak.

The visitors started the scoring in the 39th minute as Ali Sward sent her ball to Kelsey Ikemoto down the left side of the field, where Kelsey sent a cross in front of the Toro net that went untouched to the feet of Ashley Perlman, who beat CSUDH keeper #Alyssa Congdon# for the game's first score.

Chico State, which improved to 6-3-2, 4-1-2 CCAA, added its second goal seven minutes into the second half after a corner kick found its way to Lisa Webster, whose cross found Michelle Grek for the near post score at 52:10.

Undaunted, the Toros responded as play resumed, with Gomez launching a 35 foot floater over the outstretched arms of Natalie Bensky to cut the CSUDH deficit to 2-1 at 52:19.

That's where the score remained as the Wildcats continued to send the ball towards CSUDH's goal, quelling any potential scoring opportunities.

The Toros out-shot CSUC 13-8, including 8-2 in the second half, but were out-cornered 7-4.  Bensky finished with 5 saves, compared to 3 for Congdon.

CSUDH, now 6-5, 5-3 CCAA, travels for four-consecutive CCAA contests before returning home on Friday, October 16, to host UC San Diego for a 7:00 pm first kick.
