Otters Deny Toros Second CCAA Win in Quick Three Games

CARSON -- With both opponents fighting for their second CCAA win of the season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's volleyball team was unable to find what they were looking for in a quick 3-0 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay. With a dismal team offense, Hilary Hougardy spearheaded the Toros defense with 14 digs.

CSUDH kept it close in game one, seeing their best chance for a win with the score knotted at 15-all. CSUMB used a unforeseen Toro service error to start an eight-point rush before grabbing a 25-17 win.

Playing as a different team in game two, the Toros used five kills apiece from Ashley Clark and Samantha Maxwell to bring them within striking distance, down 20-18. However, once again a late-game Otter rush secured a CSUMB win, with the final kill coming from Elizabeth Hanna.

Not able to find their momentum in game three, a final five-point push, capped with a Madison Horsley kill was all the Toros could say before a 25-18 loss.

With errors plaguing the Toros, Maxwell led the offensive effort with nine kills while Alisha Thomas and Rheann Fall led the CSUMB effort with 12 apiece. With every active Toro seeing action in tonight's match, all but a few contributed to the team's defense with libero Hougardy taking a stand at 14 digs.

The loss moves the Toros to a 1-13 overall record (1-6 CCAA). CSUMB will next see action on the road as they take on Cal Poly Pomona next Friday, October 2. First serve is slated for 7:00pm.
