Murphy Magical in 2-1 Win at San Francisco State


SAN FRANCISCO -- Sophomore sensation #Jessica Murphy# connected for her first multi-goal game of 2009 in leading Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 2-1 win over host San Francisco State on a sunny Friday afternoon at Gator Field.

After a scoreless 33 minutes in CSUDH's first CCAA road game of the season, Murphy netted the game's first score at the 33:35 mark, taking a feed from #Yadira Gomez# and blasting her shot past SFSU keeper Rachel Lauderdale for a 1-0 lead.

The Torrance native followed that effort with a penalty kick score eight minutes later to give CSUDH a 2-0 cushion over the Gators, now 3-2-2, 1-1-1 CCAA, entering the break.

Murphy's second goal of the night proved key as the hosts cut their deficit in half after a Carly Bliss score off a corner kick, but the Toro defense and keeper #Alyssa Congdon# held the SFSU offense in check the remainder of the contest, resulting in the 2-1 win.

CSUDH was out-shot 14-9 and gained just one corner to SFSU's nine, but Congdon's four saves on five shots trumped Lauderdale's four saves on six attempts in the win.

The Toros, now 3-4, 2-2 CCAA, continue CCAA road action on Sunday whey they travel to Seaside to face Cal State Monterey Bay at 11:30 am.
