Miracle Finish Caps No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona's Double Overtime 4-3 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Cal Poly Pomona's Miya Quinn let fly with what first appeared to be a 25 foot cross in the 104th minute of the second overtime period, but as CSUDH keeper #Alyssa Congdon# secured the ball brought down by the wind, she backed into the post and into her own net, giving the 19th-ranked Broncos their fourth unanswered goal and the 4-3 win.  #Lexi Ford# gave the Toros a 1-0 lead with her first goal in Cardinal and Gold.

Ford began the high-scoring affair after taking a ball from a Bronco defender and beating CPP keeper Ashley Salerno at the 14:09 mark to give CSUDH a 1-0 lead, before #Makenzie Pedrotti headed a feed from Melissa Livergood# past Salerno three minutes later for a 2-0 cushion.

#Jessica Murphy# launched a perfect free kick at the 32:03 mark for good measure, giving the hosts a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 lead.

The second half, however, was all Cal Poly Pomona, as Mary Carroll began the comeback with a blast from 30 yards that sailed over Congdon's head at 55:36, and then cut the lead to one by starting a give and go with under eight minutes left.

The Broncos, now 5-1, 1-1 CCAA, knotted the game at 88:26 after Valerie Strawn's blast from 15 deflected off a diving Toro defender and under Congdon for the equalizer to end regulation, before CPP completed its miraculous comeback in the second extra session.

The Toros out-shot CPP 13-12 and enjoyed a 6-3 corner kick advantage, while each team was whistled for 13 fouls in the all southern California affair.

CSUDH, now 2-4, 1-2 CCAA, kicks off a three-game set away from home, before returning to Carson on September 25, to host CS Stanislaus at 4:30 pm.
