Toros' Momentum Lost and Not Found in 3-0 Loss to Humboldt State

ARCATA, Calif. -- Nearly grabbing a win in game one did not prove enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team went on to lose the game 28-26 and the match 3-0 on the road versus Humboldt State. With nearly equal numbers between the two teams, Madison Horsley led CSUDH statistically, posting her second double-double of the season with 11 kills & digs apiece.

Despite a game one loss, CSUDH posted more kills the set, landing 16 to the Lumberjacks 10, capped by seven from Ashley Clark.

Tied at 26-each, two Toro errors would end the game at 28-26, dropping their momentum on the night.

The Toros could not recover in game two, posting only 10 kills, while allowing HSU 16. CSUDH did just as well from the net however, with Heather Rushton grabbing two blocks before the Toros fell 25-19.

A final kill from Horsley, capping a three-point streak, would be the last true point they would earn in game three, dropping the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Ultimately, errors from the line plagued the Toros, with CSUDH posting seven service errors in game one, yet losing the game by two. CSUDH rebounded in games two and three, committing only four more service errors to match that of the 'Jacks.

Overall, CSUDH was led on the night by Horsley with 11 digs and kills apiece while Clark answered with 11 kills of her own.

The true standout on the night however was 5'4" tall Cassidy Mangum, who aside from her 28 assists, grabbed two block assists at the net, the first blocks of her two-year career as a Toro.

The loss drops CSUDH to a 0-9 record overall and 0-2 in the CCAA. The Toros will next see the court as they host CCAA newcomer Cal State East Bay on September 18 in the Torodome. First serve is slated for 7:00pm.
